Mig Gilbert

Mig Gilbert is an artist living and working in Brighton. Influenced by the city-scapes, crowded areas and urban sprawl, her works are a juxtaposition of hand drawn, photographic and found imagery collaged together using the screen print.

She graduated in 2004 with a first class degree in Fine Art.  Since then she has participated in a number of exhibitions and competitions. In 2004 she won the Leicester Printworks Mini print exhibitions non members prize.  The winning print was published in Printmaking Today, Winter 2004. Since then she has participated in a number of group and solo exhibitions.

For those of you not familiar with the screen print process this is it! Either photographic/photocopied images or hand drawn ones can be developed onto the screen.  Once these images have been developed ink is put onto the screen and forced through using a squeegee.  Usually people use a press when screen printing to produce exact copies onto a thin surface but due to the largeness of her work and the organic nature of her subject Mig works straight onto canvas. In this picture Mig is working on 'Stop' and 'Dead In Your Tracks'.
